Juneteenth 2025
Once again this year, LESSB and APS teamed up for Lubbock’s annual Juneteeth events. This year we covered all three elements of the day.
At the Senior Breakfast at Mae Simmons Community Center, APS and LESSB representatives were present with a table, brochures and swag. Many questions were asked and answered for the 85 attendees.
LESSB Board members also participted in the Juneteenth Parade which went from just west of the South Plains Fair Grounds back to Mae Simmons Park. We threw out candy for kids (and adults) from a vehicle with signs on the side promoting the Board and APS. There was a large throng of people there for the parade and many of them were especially excited to see our Board President John Robison in person. Many watch John perform his meteorologist duties on television. It was nice to have such a celebrity in our midst.
In the afternoon APS and LESSB representatives were in MacKenzie Park at the Juneteenth Healthcare Tent, participating in the event’s health fair. 100-150 attendees came by our booth to pick up literature and swag and have their questions answered concerning elder abuse.
The Juneteenth Celebration continues to prove to be an excellent way for us to continue to educate the community about both APS and LESSB.
